Abstract Thought of the Day

Friend: But if it bothers you to see that person's face pop up in your friend's list, then why don't you just drop them as a friend?

Me: ... see, you just don't understand Facebook.

Ya know, fb DOES allow you to easily block posts from those friends you're less interested in (but didn't want to refuse their "friendship" on the site). And if, later on, you want to delete that friend from your list, you can do so and fb won't even notify them that you did so. Nice touch, that.

See, you're assuming that you're dealing with a rational person here.

I'm well aware that FB lets you block posts from friends. And I definitely know that they don't notify people when you drop them as friends. Not that I have, but I know how the system works.

This was more the product of not wanting to drop people for foolish reasons. Things like not wanting your friend total to go down.

Or even more fun like, upon realizing the passive-aggressive nature of Facebook's system, not wanting to drop people specifically because they won't be notified. If I'm going to go through the trouble of deciding I want absolutely nothing to do with someone, the system should have the decency to alert them of that fact.
